Hmmm? Thanks for sharing the pics Mike. Nothing wrong with a great project. I always like to see another vintage Corvette saved from the scrap heap. It definitely looks like a '76 body (so VIN is fine) with a '78 interior installed.
As for the trim tag, perhaps the '76 had some front end damage and the front clip was replaced with the almost identical clip from a donor '78 (the two pin emblem hole above the side vent seems to confirm this), they left the '78 trim tag in place and it's just coincidence that both cars were yellow originally. If the '76 interior was tired, this could explain where the '78 style interior came from as well.
Good luck on the restoration!
Cheers, Greg
thank you for the information that’s good to know and makes sense and the restoration will definitely be a bit of work, This is my first car and I’ve never really done more than an oil change, I have some knowledge but my knowledge is limited, I’m only 20 years old but I’ve always had a thing for classic cars

let me first say my car is very rough and it’s definitely a project but here are some pictures
The hood looks later than a 76, missing grill.
At least right front fender has the emblem pins closer together that would fit a 77 cross flag emblem but real early 77 had no fender cross flags.
The dash is later 78+ and can't be positive about colum.
The turn lever is angled 78-early 79...I think
Nice project car.
I wish I would have started my body off restomod project with something in this condition.
All the original 76 interior panels are still available through Al Knoch and Corvette America (Top Flight Automotive).
I know because I just purchased all new interior for my 73.
You have a long but exciting road ahead of you.
If you get tired or frustrated, don’t give up.
Take a break and dive back into it.
There is no doubt the interior is 78. The console both gauge cluster and driver's console were introduced in 77 but then the tach/speedo but the glove box confirms a 78 interior.
The crazy thing is that it has the defogger switch but in 76, only the defroster was offered...does it work? Hooked up?

Hope this helps!
Honestly not sure what works and what doesn't, car hasn't been registered since 97 and I basically have to go through it all myself
