I heard yesterday that Yogi Bair, the founder of Bairs Corvette, died. I confirmed it online. I got to meet him a few years ago when I had the 77 up at their place. He took my wife and I to lunch at local diner, told us lots of history from the past, told us some jokes.....quite a guy. He gave us a full tour of their facility.....they have lots of stuff, lots of cars. They also are the manufacturer of some of the parts all the vendors sell. They are a legend in the C2 C3 Corvette world. His son Brian was running the place then.....I think its been sold to one of their employees....not sure about that. The work they did on my 77 corrected some of the garbage I had done on the 77 when I built it. Worked good ever since. I was glad to meet Yogi.
Yogi was a great guy, I'd known him for at least 30 years, and considered him a friend. I could always expect a visit from him, at any swap meet I was vending at. Bloomington, Carlisle, Knoxville, Cypress, he always made a point to stop by and spend some time talking and telling stories.....and boy could he tell some stories!
Brian, his son, had been running the business for probably the last 15 -20 years. Brian sold the business a few years back to a couple employees, but stayed on for a little while to help them get started. Even with the change in ownership, not much has changed with Bair's though. They still do top quality work, make some of the best repro parts, and are just generally good people to deal with.
Yogi and the crew at Bairs always go above and beyond for their customers. Truly good people!
I send my condolences to Brian and the entire Bair family for their loss. I have personally met Yogi on several occasions and am better for it.
God bless and RIP Yogi.
RIP Yogi.
The guys at Bair’s rebuilt my rear diff as well as both T/A’s earlier this year, and I couldn’t have been more happy with the results.
Great bunch of guys (and gals)
May Yogi’s legacy live on forever!
Just some clarification - Mike Farley has owned Bairs Corvettes for a few years now. He has been an employee there for about 30 years, I met Mike when I was at Bairs about a year ago. I was delivering my trailing arms to them for a rebuild. Mike gave me a tour of their operation, including a look inside a separate building where they store some of their own cars, including a couple 427 C2s.
Mike is a very nice guy and he explained to me that he is running the business just like when Yogi was in charge and he intended to continue that policy.
They disassembled and inspected my trailing while I watched and had them finished and shipped back in about a week. Although I had them do work for me before, this was my first visit to the shop.
I am sure the business is in good hands after Yogi's passing.
Last week. Order delivered the next day. I would agree that the website isn’t very “user friendly”… I just call them and give them the part numbers, no issues.
