Hello. As the title says are lock washers, external, split, or flat washers needed on the two bolts and two nuts that bolt the carburetor to the intake manifold. It's a stock iron manifold if that makes a difference. Trying to stop them from having to be retightened or end up over tightened. Thanks for your helpful advice.
I use a stainless flat washers to clamp a Holley to aluminum Intake. The washer keeps the nut from gouging into soft materials such as the carb base.
And in a small way the washer distributes the torquing load evenly.
When torquing down any carb base, crisscross the tightening pattern in several steps.

Since you are referring to a Quadrajet they use flat washers only.
"two bolts"????
If your bolts loosen up enough that the carb is loose (not just the gasket compressing) without lock washers, why not try lock washers??
If you feel you need a locking device on the carburetor stud nuts and don’t want to use lock washers, try using a good nylon lock nut with a flat washer underneath or use a little Locktite on the threads.
Photo taken 6 months after I bought it in 2015. Carb mounting bolts with flat washers. At the time I took the photo, with the exception of the thermostat housing, everything is original.
