Anyone have any experience carpeting speaker boxes? Like others, I’m looking at the boxes from Innovative Corvette Products. Unfortunately he’s only making the boxes with black carpet. My interior is Dark Saddle. You don’t really see the speakers but when you do they’ll really stick out.
I was thinking of asking if I could buy them bare and cover them myself. Blowing up a few of the photos on his site it doesn’t look too complicated but I have zero experience.
Not very hard but carpet doesn't like to fold around sharp corners. The "carpet" they use for boxes isn't what the carpet in your car is like. more of a cloth and usually doesn't have the backing so it's easier to fold.. Cut pile will be easier than loop of course.
If you haven't done something like this before you may want to practice how to fold and cut the carpet using some cardboard or something.
Hardest part will be trying to hide the edges, they disappear easier in the black that the saddle.
Patience, good sissors / knife some spray glue (3M 7x) and a staple gun
You may want to skip the carpet idea. After all, your seats and dash (hopefully) are not carpeted.
If you have a Hobby Lobby, or better yet a Joann's Fabric, check out the dozens & dozens of bolts of fabric. Look for something in a Naugahyde that closely resembles the interior color. That material is so much easier to cut, blend, bend, mend and staple.

Speaker building is a hobby of mine, and Yes speaker carpet (or cloth) is available. I get mine from Parts Express, an audio company. Available in a few colors or dye it yourself. Their website has helpful instructions. https://www.parts-express.com/Speake...768?quantity=1
Those dont look to hard to cover. should be able to do it with some contact adhesive and staples.
the speaker carpet many use i think is called needle punch carpet, without a backing. its pretty light to pull around corners. https://www.albrightssupply.com/stretch-carpet
The box design looks pretty easy so you could use oem style carpet if you can find it.
If you use a vinyl I would maybe wrap it in 1/8 closed cell foam first.
Coincidentally I was installing speakers in my 71 convertible. It’s not difficult to use the 3M adhesive and staple gun on my homemade speaker box. I purchased the fabric on Amazon. It’s inexpensive enough to take a stab at it. Not quite finished
Chevrolet made so many different interior colors for its C3 that its almost impossible to match aftermarket carpet colors - not to mention sun-fading. There are as I see, only two feasible solutions:
Take left over carpet from your last carpet install (if you have any) and order the cabinets without carpet and cover the cabinets yourself.
Take your car to a local auto upholsterer and see if they can match the color. Ken
