Default Removing a 78 clock

I had the entire center section console removed from my 1978 C3 pace car last year in order to get to my clock. It had the classic problem of stuck points. It was running when it was put it back together, but 6 month later the clock has stopped again. My question, is there any way to remove the clock with out tearing out the console? Will giving it a few love taps while installed break it loose? I have ordered a new retrofit quartz movement to replace the factory clock. That should be more dependable, but I hate the idea of ripping that far in again just to change the clock.

Welcome to Corvette world. Not much way of changing the clock w/o removing the console.

Hey, I can’t spell to save my life, but you may want to edit your title to this post. Sounds a little weird when you read it.😀.

Unfortunately, no way around taking apart the dash to get to it!! My seatbelt cancel button popped, and I am facing the same thing unfortunately!

No doubt a 78 **** is lacking. You’re making the right decision to remove it.

An alternate method would be to remove the engine and cut an access hole through the firewall to attack it from behind. 😳😳

Now doesn’t that make removing the console and gage cluster sound easy!! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Glad and I could help out. Now get in there and don’t forget to give us an update.

PS, my clock is correct twice a day, every day, all year round, even on daylight savings time.

Yup, out comes the gauge cluster and in goes the new clock movement. I did the quartz upgrade on mine back in the early 90's. Been keeping perfect time to this day. Worth doing.
And I'm thinking cutting through the firewall to access it from the rear would be a bit extreme.

The clock not working has never bothered me in 20 years. The oil pressure line leaking all over the radio and center console? That is a problem worth taking the gauge panel out. Then I had all the gauges and radio restored. The clock quit working again. It will stay that way.

I like to have everything working on my cars but I gave up on the clock years ago when I started using a battery cutoff switch.

There is a place but it can be confusing. Also I am not sure if there is a time limit to alter it or not.
You can always ask the moderator to do it for you if you like.

Remove the plastic glovebox liner and then you can see the wiring harness connector, align the center vent duct, and make sure the overhead light (points down on console) wiring isn't hung up. Don't forget the two screws that attach the the cluster to the console top plate. Slip some painters tape or thin cardboard between the top of the cluster plastic and the dash pad to keep from damaging the pad.
