Had the car up on jacks looking everything over underneath for the coming driving season and at the same time pulled the wheels off for new tires. Like many here, my tires age out before they wear out. Tires replaced, and as I am unloading them from my truck, I notice one of them looks to have a faded look compared to the others. Looked at the date code and it shows 3/20. The others were 9/22. My concern is not just the date but how this tire has been stored for the last three years.
Thoughts on whether I should have them order a replacement or go with it?
That makes good sense. I think I going to take it back. The Dealer is good people and I have used them in the past. I'll follow up with an update when I get back. Thanks
3 digit date code is a very old tire. I forget exactly when it changed over to 4 digit. But certainly before the year 2,000.
as per the OP.
Yes I would seek an exchange. Past 5 years is a old tire. This one's over halfway there.
Update from OP. Brought the tire back to Dealer and luckily the general manager happen to be there. Good because the salesperson was at a loss on how to handle the situation as this is not considered a warranty process. Explained my concern and got the expected answer, supply chain, inventory, etc. As with many chain stores, they order stock from an area distribution point and then they send whatever gets pulled from their warehouse inventory. But, he had no problem accepting the return and said he would personally reorder a replacement and add a comment to send a tire with as close or newer than the other three that were originally sent. They do sell a high volume of tires and he said it is rare that a customer actually looks at the manufacturer date after they drive off and it was also good reminder for them as well.
Thanks again Guys.

Replacement tire received this morning. Manufacturer date is within two months of the other three. Store manager was true to his word on getting a close replacement. That’s how you earn future business.
