Default 1976 White Interior Combinations?

Years ago I gad a '76 with the White interior (door panels and seats), accent color for the dash, console, carpets, etc. was Firethorn (Red). I have also seen the '76 White interior with Black accent trim. They both looked pretty sharp.
Has anyone found a guide to determine which of the 6 remaining interior colors were also offered as the accent color to the White interior?
As the White interior was offered on the White, Silver, Green, Mahogany, Buckskin, Dark Brown and Red painted cars, there had to be more combinations than just Red/White or Black/White offered.
Appreciate any and all input.
Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg,
Not exactly sure if this is what you want to know, but here is the scoop from all the information we discussed/had on the Custom Interior Trim- RPO ZJ1 while working on the 75-77 NCRS TIM&JG 3rd edition revision. In 76-77 the two- tone ZJ1 offered up four seat/trim combos. The recommended ones were: red/white,blue/white,smoke gray/white and buckskin/white. Red appeared to be the most common choice.Non-recommended two-tone options could also be built. For example, the seats, door panels, and headliner would be white but the color of the Trim Tag interior code called out the primary color, red, blue, buckskin, or smoke gray. Note that in 1976 and 1977, ZJ1 trim code is printed on the GMAD manifest(buildsheet), box77. In 1977 the car's trim tags are stamped with ZJ1. No 76 trim tags ZJ1 are known to have been stamped.
I've attached some photos from my files. The red/white trim photos are from a 1976. The smoke gray interior is from a 1976. Plus, a picture of a 77 trim tag showing the AJ1 Code.
Just one example of some of the many different anomalies brought to light that one might find in the latest editions of the NCRS Judging Manuals.
Hope this helps!
Sorry pics are huge!

...I was interested in these interiors I believe when nothing about them was in the first '75-'77 manual. I judged from 1998 to 2008 and back then noticed these "ZJ1" tags. Then just happen to come across the "ZJ1" designation of GM Production Options charts in my 1953 to 1980 Corvette Illustration Catalog. On page 12 "ZJ1" says "Custom Interior-Two Tone". Going to many, many Bloomington Golds, Corvettes@Carlisles & NCRS Nationals & Regional shows in that time frame, I had probably seen well over 20 of these interiors. I also think the Red/White was the most seen combo.

...not to get off track, the '74-'75 Vinyl only "Neutral" colored interior was probably just as or even more rare. Was pretty odd too with the vanilla colored seats, door panels & dash with a dark green dash pad. The carpet was a super dark goldish brown color too.

Hi Paul,
TR ( hunt4cleanair) on here brought all this to light during the revision and we felt it was very important to include this info not only for a judge but more importantly for the owner/restorer. I also had a photo of a 77 with the white/red interior but for one reason or another I couldn’t find it. I’d love to see photos of the 74-75 neutral vinyl interior you mention above. If you have one or should ever come across one. Just if nothing else to add it to my 73-77 files.
Thanks,
Jimmy

...Jimmy, I've probably have only seen maybe 7-9 cars with the Neutral interior. One of the last years I attended Carlisle, maybe 6yrs ago there was a very, very rare '74 Brown 454 conv with most options & Neutral interior. Was probably like one of five OR less made like that. Think they were asking like $78k for it.

Greg, see your from Palm Springs...NCRS had a great national there a couple of years back...I did a side trip to Long Beach and Huntington...great time!

I'm attaching an article submitted to the NCRS Corvette Restorer a year ago on the RPO ZJ1 option...its backed up three years so takes a while to get it into print...but here's a pdf version. We used buildsheets and Chevrolet Corvette dealer order guides to complete the tables. Of course we had a few vehicles to study as tooch illustrates.

Enjoy!

PS: *I should add that that 76 standard steel wheel was used into 78-79 and in 78, the horn button remained the same and did not sport the 25th anniversary emblem!

Hello Paul and Jimmy,

With regards to 1974-1975 Neutral Vinyl Interior, I posted some pics a while back in a previous thread discussion. Here they are again:

1974 Neutral Vinyl Interior -- Code 408

1975 Neutral Vinyl Interior -- Code 60V

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-corvette.html
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ior-color.html

Like Paul says above, the vanilla seats door panels and dash, olive green dash pad, and brown carpets make for an odd combination of colors. I have seen a few of these interiors in person over the years. It was not a popular interior choice back then.

Admittedly, I have not personally observed many of these interiors, but the smoke grey 76 pictured above seems odd to me. The white lower dash pad, black column, and white A pillar trim seem out of place. Console looks light, but that may be due to camera flash since I do see a light shade variance where the dash pad and console meet. Did different colors have different amounts of white components? As I recall, every version I observed was limited to white door panels and seat covers.

Hey Greg....I had a buddy who passed away a few years ago who owned a Buckskin '76.
His had a white interior with dark brown as the accent color....wish I had took a pic.
I learn something around here almost everyday....that smoke gray/white ZJ1 combo is new to me.
Quite a bit different than mine...

76 with smoke gray/white ZJ1 interior
Tooch, thanks for the in depth info. I had assumed that the White seats/door panels would have been quite easy for GM to put with any colored interior offered in '76 & '77. For instance, a 1976 with paint code 33 Dark Green could be OK with the White with Black accented interior but would probably look much better if it had the White with Blue-Green accented interior. As noted, I suppose a customer could get an over ride and choose any combination that pleased them.
I have to agree with Paul on this Smoked Grey with White looking a bit odd. I think the issue is the Black steering column. If it was also painted Smoked Grey I think it would work much better.
Cheers, Greg

Agreed. Over the years I have also seen a couple with this interior. I could never fathom what possessed GM to offer this odd, Olive, Beige, Brown combo. It just gives the impression of leftover mismatched parts.

Funny you mention that, I'm looking at a '76 right now that is Buckskin with the Dark Brown interior. I think the Dark Brown is a little overpowering so if I get the car, I think I will change it up to the White/Dark Brown combination. Living here in the desert, a white interior is a big plus and I've always liked the white interiors I've seen on the '76 & '77's.
The Smoked Grey with White is also nice but it almost seems like a waste as the Grey is already such a light color.

I agree too, but I also think it's neat as hell, very unique. Surprised GM had it and even offered it. That one pic in the Bright Green '75 is very, very neat. Seems like I've seen it in a few Brown '74s and a few Medium Saddle '75s.
