Trying to adjust window whereby it’ll stay outside the clip while cranking up. I can get it adjusted reasonably well in relation to the A post and top. Door hinges and gaps are good. Window and regulator rollers aren’t new but seem ok. Initially straightened out a slightly bent arm on the regulator assembly as I did with the passenger side which is good. Have been through the AIM for adjustment procedure. The window goes up and down fine I just can’t roll it up all the way with the door closed unless I open the door then close it. Any ideas on a fix I would appreciate. Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this is where you might get more adjustment for your issue. There is some vertical adjustment, in and out, on the a frame trim. It is 2 pieces of trim with the rubber gasket sandwiched in between them. The fat rubber weatherstripping is covering 3 screws. If you remove that weatherstripping ( the one inside the clips) you can loosen the 3 screws and slide the track that holds the gasket in or out as needed. Looking at your last picture it appears too far INSIDE at the top. Could that be where the problem is. That track is really only there to control the in and out of the top of the window. Maybe this will help. Good luck.
The top of the window needs to come OUT quite a bit to properly fit the A pillar weatherstrip. At about the halfway point of rolling up if I had approximately 1/2” “outboard “ positioning it would just clear the clip and seat ok. I’ll check that weatherstrip adjustment. Thank you!
How is the metal frame on your convertible top? The metal frame on my 73 is “skewed” to the passenger side, I was hoping that when the shop install a new top, they would fix / adjust the frame, but of course they didn’t. In fact they did a poor install job in my opinion. Another factor can be the fitment of your doors, is there any play when you try to lift the wide open door? My drivers side window fits good at the front but is about 1/8
inch to low (from the frame was) at the top rear. I have spent way to much time trying to get a good window seal, yes I bought all new weatherstripping. Remember these cars are old, and I will bet the windows didn’t fit that great when the car left the assembly plant.
Convertible top frame is good as well as door fitment. I know they weren’t great when new but I’m pretty sure you could at least crank the window up all the way without having to open the door halfway up. Don’t need a lot of adjustment just enough for the blow out clip to guide the window into the weatherstrip channel.
The 1969 Assembly Instruction Manual has a complete summary that was provided to the factory workers on how to adjust the windows.
I won't be home until late March, otherwise I would send over a copy to you. Maybe someone else here can help. Good luck.
BTW, if you have a removable hardtop, mount it on the car and adjust the windows to it, then do the convertible. Roll up the windows, mount the convertible top to the body, and adjust it to the windows by loosening the frame and header mounting bolts and moving the convertible top around until it fits. Helps greatly to have an extra set or two of hands.
Thanks for the offer! I have referred to the AIM and chassis manual for those procedures and I’m able to get the window adjusted into the top and A pillar weatherstrip with the window all the way up it just runs to the inside of the blowout clip if I’m cranking it up. If I can adjust the APillar rail that holds the weatherstrip that would help… I think.
Was the track hat holds the glass bent? I see you have it in a vice. With the felt covers guides on the top of the door removed/loosened, the window should move in & out easily. If the top of the window is stiff, then there is something wrong with th guide in & out adjustment.
There’s plenty of movement with the felt pads out and I was checking the regulator arms and seeing if a slight tweak would lean the window slightly outbound. Have yet to reassemble.
