Changing the accelerator cable
Went to a great event at the race track out side of Valencia today called Racing Legends. There were tons of classic cars , bikes, trucks and Formula 1 cars… Had a great time and saw lots of friends… Leaving the raceway my accelerator cable snapped, I ended up having to get it towed to my buddies shop. I have a new cable but dread having to get up under the dash to try and change it. I’ll take out the driver’s seat and steering wheel. I’m a big guy so maneuvering around under there won’t be easy. Has anyone ever changed the gas cable? Any good tips on how to do it?
It's not difficult to do, but may be hard to reach. Install it from the inside out toward the firewall. Remove the gas pedal arm, then remove the retaining washer that holds the "ball". Then you must remove the bolt that mounts the cable to the firewall...patience helps....it's even more frustrating to re-install. (I'm going from memory, did mine some years ago).
you don't HAVE to remove the pedal but it might make it easier. the ball needs to be pulled out of the little plastic retainer and then you can pop the retainer out of the pedal rod and then drop it and loose it in the carpet somewhere for an hour or so. Then when you take that screw that holes the cable sleeve to the firewall don't forget to drop it so it falls down behind the carpet and into the abyss there. Feel free to drop it 3 or 4 times when trying to put it back in as well

Done fixed, I hope I never have to do that again, not fun…. As it turns out it wasn’t even the cable that snapped… it was the iron bar that pivots when you step on the gas and pulls the cable. Luckily I have a friend that had one…. So I swapped out the pívot bar and installed the new cable…😊. Guess I have to lighten up on my stomping…🤣🤣
