Default Windshield Header Replacement

I have owned my early production ( 1-21-69 ) 1969 coupe since 1991 and for the past 20 years my windshield has leaked when raining but I don`t drive when raining unless I get caught in a unexpected storm . Car is garage kept . So this years winter project is to replace what`s needed to stop the leak . I removed the outer and interior trim pieces and found that someone ,before my ownership, did some repairs to the header . They filled in a rust hole with body filler .
Ordered new windshield header and both upper corner pieces , interior trim , mirror bracket and both upper outer windshield corner trim . Parts took about 2 weeks to get. So last weekend . my nephew Gregory , a welder , and I replaced the windshield header and both upper corners . We took our time and took a lot of measurements before removing old frame .Job came out good . Now just to drill new holes for clips . trim and moldings . paint frame , install windshield . Sounds easy doesn`t it ?

Right now I have just 2 questions , I`m sure more will come , First, the old upper outer corner trim doesn`t have a hole/slot on the end but the new ones do . AIM doesn`t show it . What`s it for ? Second is are the T center and corner trim for a 1968 car ? They don`t have the top hold down screw holes . See pics below .
Thanks , Steven

Thanks , 62corvette , but those screw holes are shown in my 1969 AIM . So I guess they started to appear in mid to late 69.

Thanks for posting all the photos. Excellent!

question: Did the Right end of the header sit down into the corner like the left side? I was having the same fitment, which I didn’t think was correct, but if you guys took careful measurements, and the new parts fit like the old ones, then perhaps the right side is supposed to sit higher.

when I look at my disassembly videos, it looks like the top header edge lines up with the flat top of the A pillars. Can you clarify?

Nice work......
The window trim install for the A-Pillars is a skill level 10 out of 10.....hopefully you have the right tools and procedure to do it without knicking the trim......

K-DOG , sorry for not answering sooner , I`m still working on the fitment of the windshield trim . Even with all of the measurements that we took the header does sit a little higher on the right side then the left . I guess the old frame was also off from a repair done before my ownership . The trim never sat or looked right to me before this repair . I haven`t had much time to spend on car. So far I did need to grind down the new header some on the right but also had to grind down both of the NEW upper corner trim to sit better on the header , the old corner pieces sat better on the new header .

jebbysan , thanks for the compliment , I wish my skill level is a 10 but it`s not . I will be taking my time when it comes to installing of the A pillar trim but first the pieces need to be straightened out and polished up.
