Hello I’m installing my slip yoke in my m20 Muncie into my 76 that was an automatic. It seems to be hitting the emergency brake pulley and I was wondering if I have the trans mounted incorrectly.
It’s a 4.8 conversion with the bell housing set in the stock location. I’ve looked at many pics online and the driveshafts all clear the pulley. Any advise out there would be highly appreciated. What did you do when you ran into this? Thanks.
Try grinding 1/8" off the head of the bolt.
Then put the bolt in place with the head next to the driveshaft and the threaded end & nut pointing outboard,
Grind more off the head if necessary.
You may need a new bolt and pulley kit from the looks of the original parts.
Judging from the hole in your floor....I would say you are off to the drivers side about an inch......
C2/C3 Vette's have pretty healthy engine offset to the passenger side.....I believe about 1.5"
Do your LS mounts accommodate this?
Thank you for replying, unfortunately the mounts nay allow front to back adjustment and not side to side. The mounts are attached to the factory bracket locations. I gues just gotta getrdone! If anything a bolt can always be replaced. I was about ready to chop off the mount.
Thanks for the reply 69 , do you have a link? Or name I’d like to see it ? I flipped the bolt this morning and I’m sure I can get it to clear with very minor shaving of the yoke. Just a hair.
My Silver Sport Transmissions kit for an auto to 5 speed manual, included a new mount and roller assembly to move the roller for clearance.
As suggested by Jebby above, also check your engine mounts for proper alignment so you don’t end up with any driveshaft vibration.
Our driveshafts are short so it doesn’t take much of an offset.
when i relocated mine for my crossmember fabrication I welded the nut on the outboard side and now I just use a bolt with a lockwasher & locktite and that gives me a little more room on the driveshaft side.

When I installed the 700R4 in my '79 I had to relocate the park brake cable pulley. It's not a big deal to grind it off the crossmember and reweld it where it won't interfere with the driveshaft.
