I enjoyed that car, some 35 years ago.
Now I want even more power (BBC) but also more creature comforts as well.
So this one gets leather, AC, 5 spd, etc.
I think, through the years auto manufacturers have brought in transmissions and the normal now is an 8 or 10 speed automatic.
In my new Chevy Silverado the 10 speed trans and rear end gearing keeps the rpm’s at about 1700 at 70+ mph on the highway.
Gas mileage is great, and the engine is quiet.
I believe most people have gotten used to this as normal and when they jump into the classic, the high rpm’s at highways speeds isn’t the normal they have come to know.
My 73 bb will have a .82 5th gear and 3.08 rear end gears so I can cruise down the highway with cooler engine temps and quieter exhaust.

Even back in the day we wouldn't drive over 4000 rpm sustained on the highway...it wasnt worth it...high temps, engine wear, cats and dogs living together....you know, total chaos!!!
