hey, just got the car a coupl days ago and of course I expect problems it is almost 50 years old. So the ignition will not turn all the way back, but the key coms out and then you do not need the key to start the car, just turn the ignition forward and the car starts right up. Anybody know what I need to do to fix this? THANKS
Also, if the key comes out of the cylinder without it all the way off. The cylinder is worn out. Start learning how to pull apart your column. The retaining clip is under the turn signal switch. Loads if fun if it's your first time!
Mine does the same thing.
Turns out it's the wire harness that runs over top of the steering column.
The harness is in two parts and the connector is right above the steering column.
There is a mounting clip on the steering column for the connector to sit in but it keeps falling out.
Check there first.

Yes, that is you ignition switch above and attached to the steering column. There is a long rod that moves there when you turn the key, and if the switch is not well-attached to the column, interesting things can happen, or not....
