another covered headlight thread sorry
@taint I am like you as I was not born a vette guy although I always thought a C3 looked cool. I would never have owned one until my uncle offered me his one day after his 43 year tenure was over. Tearing it to bits and changing everything for no good reason seemed normal lol.
Do you have pictures of your car now?
@mrvette that looks awesome! I wish I had the bodywork/fiberglass skills for something like that.
Good news/bad news on my Detroit Speed system. The good news is I figured out the problem. Which is also the bad news as now I cannot justify putting bubblicious racing lights from the 60’s or awesomely horrible enclosed Monza versions on my car.
After a long uncomfortable call to Detroit Speed (tried twice before in years past and got nowhere… probably due to my own frustration) the young lads finally put me through to “their boss” who was a nice guy seemingly driving around in his car somewhere. He basically knew exactly what the problem was. At one point he let slip “…I told engineering…” yada yada.
This thing has a control module that is the brains of the operation. It had its own new wiring harness that comes in the kit supplying power/ground to the lifting motors. The problem lies in where the 19-page instructions tell you to tie in for power/ground to the module. Mr. BossMan said I should forget that and run direct power/ground from the battery to the module.
To test his theory I unplugged the motors and ran direct 12v and ground from a separate battery. Doing that the headlights go up/down at warp speed just like in the manufacturer’s demo vids.
I must say I feel a little stupid for letting this fester for so long. I am not looking forward to ripping my dash apart to access the module but it shouldn’t be that bad.
I also would like to apologize to Detroit Speed for the hateful earlier remarks. It really is some quality stuff if perhaps a wee bit more complex than it needs to be.

Any straight on shots??
Now I wish mine wasn’t fixed haha.
Here's a few other pics. I'm a cheapskate, so I made my own buckets and bought some old corvair van headlight brackets. Covers are from Vintage Exotics. For the time and money, I probably could've made my pop ups work, but I didn't.

Still deciding if supporting mods such as hood, exposed latches and a front splitter may be needed to complete the look. 👀
with l88 splitter and other mods
With that said its hard for me to justify removing a perfectly working vacuum system however my inner race car self says do it! 😁
