Default Jute carpet backing?

I’m getting ready to order the carpet for my 71 coupe (Al Knock). Is there any advantages to ordering the jute back separate as opposed to already glued to the carpet?

Do some serious reading on the best and easiest way to install your carpet. The most important step by far, is to leave the new carpet in a hot car all day so that it will be pliable., before installation. The wheels humps are the worst. Make sure you order drain plugs and new rubber plug for the inside firewall / rear storage wall. New industrial scissors, 4 scratch awls, and a pencil point soldering iron are good tools for the job. Go slow make SMALL CUTs.

I ordered the jute already glued to the carpet and trimmed away areas of jute where I had thick layers of heat/sound reducer.
IF you glue the carpet to the floorboard...spot-glue it so it will be easy to remove if necessary.
TUCK and fit...Tuck and fit before making cuts!

Thanks guys! I’m thinking about ordering one of the hole cutters for neat holes. The socket and burn method looks too slow.

If you have relatively deep pockets, buy the already-attached jute. If not, buy jute material from e-bay and cut/glue it in yourself.
P.S. The tar-soaked cardboard pieces are equally important to your carpeting re-do. They are sound deadeners and are located in specific spots to reduce road noises. If you are installing sound deadening materials anyway, skip that step.

Thanks for the input gentlemen, I’m not sure my 71 had any cardboard pieces for sound deadening.
