Default Help identifying car

I'm looking at a c3 that a guy says is a 79. Looks like someone body filled the front bumper gap and I can't find this interior color combo anywhere on Google. Just interested if I'm looking at something special or just another car.

It’s completely modified, molded nose, 80-82 looking nose cap, color, interior. It wont look like any stock car you compare it to.

Nothing is special about a '79, except that Chevy made almost 60k of them. Looks like an '80 bumper cover was blended in, so it's probably a fiberglass replica. The spoiler probably came from JC Whitney, as did the interior. Cheap add-on faux wood grain, or maybe it is actually wood. Not stock in any case.
With all the rust under the hood you'd better check the birdcage and the body attachment points carefully.
Where is this car? New Orleans?

It better be cheap.

BTW - Just to be fair, I own a '79

It is in New Orleans actually haha. I'm gonna check it out. It doesn't seem too bad. I just didn't know why it was so different.

I think the spoiler is aftermarket. Can you find the vin number on the engine block or the driver's side pillar post? That will give some information you can use to identify the car.

When you open the driver's door you'll see this metal plate and it contains interior and exterior paint codes etc. It's across from the door hinge..

Location of VIN number info on pillar post

I'll definitely check that out. I haven't even seen the car in person yet. Waiting on schedules to line up.

As mentioned above, take a real good look at everything. A lot of cars were underwater in N.O. after Hurricane Ida.
Good Luck!

Photographed wet? Paint (or clearcoat) is shot.
Interior needs everything.
Automatic? Not in America's sports car.
Rust is the real killer. This could be a parts car if flooded and left to rot.

Search for where/how to check for rust in a C3.

Clear coat is peeling.
I don't mind it being auto.
I was never looking for a show car, just always wanted a c3 and this one runs good and has a decent sounding cam(don't know the specs).
I don't think it's as rusty as everyone seems to think. I've lived down here my whole life and seen dozens of fairly clean cars have surface rust and not be rotted out in any way.

Good luck with the inspection!

Please post more photos when you get to see it.

If you just want a cool car to drive around, everything else can be fixed easily in your garage, except paint and rust.

It's got the large back glass, which means it's a '78 to '82; but it's got the '73 to '79 style fender vents, so my vote is that it's a '78 or '79'

Check the gas filler door emblem. All '78s should have 25th anniversary emblems. 79s will have just flags.

1978 25th anniversary emblem

1979 emblem

Of course, if the filler door is missing, or the emblems have been changed, then you're back to the VIN on the pillar as your best friend.
