Trying to sort out the headlight and wiper door on my 1969. I have installed a new headlight switch, new manual overide valve, new check valve. Initially, everything was working fine. I turn on the lights, the headlights came up and went down when lights off. Next day, I began to work on the wiper door. As I cranked the car to test out the wiper door, my headlights popped up on their own without the switch on. Turn off the car, lights remain up. So frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you accidentally move the over-ride valve located under the dash near the lower steering column control **** in or out...this will cause the headlights to open when the engine is started.
Door gunner, not initially. I did try moving the over ride in and out a couple of times subsequently to see what happened. It had no affect in either position. I manually closed the headlights, made sure the over ride was up (off) and re cranked the car. Still popped up.
The over-ride valve should have held the headlights in the UP position when it is engaged. You might need to rechek the vacuum hoses to be sure they are connected to the correct ports...it's easy to connect to the wrong port.
Willcox Corvette online technical section has a vacuum diagram for your car.
applying vacuum to the relays closes the headlights. that way, any vacuum failure and headlights default to up position. so something you did shut vacuum off to the relay. small control line. not fat actuating line.
