I hadn’t driven my new 77 until tonight and when I turned the lights on the volt meter went from 13v to under 8. Once I turn the lights out it bounces back to 13. Any quick checks?
Also while I was out driving yesterday I noticed my oil pressure gauge had moved all the way to the right. I looked 5 min later and it was reading again. When I went for a drive tonight it was fine and then I looked down and back to all the way to the right. This time it stayed there and didn’t go back even when the car was turned off
Went out to ground the wire out on the pressure gauge and when I turned the key on it went from the far right to the far left and when I started the car it worked…….who knows.
While out there I put a volt meter on the battery and it read 13 volts, turned the car on and it went to 14, turned the lights on and it stayed at 14, not under 8 like the gauge reads……who knows
Start with checking and cleaning the large ground wire from the battery. If you plan on doing work on your car purchase a Chevrolet Service Manual for a 1977 model car, it will have a wiring diagram. Poor grounds will cause intermittent problems and can be extremely hard to find. A lot of guys will start by cleaning/ inspecting the ground wires going to each lamp / assembly. Good Hunting.

Thanks for your advice. I’ve cleaned up the battery ground strap when I had the body jacked up to replace the body mounts.
I guess the up side is the battery is still being charged when the lights are on despite what the gauge says
