My recently acquired 68 does not have the Corvette letters between the rear taillights. I bought a set and I'm going to use 3M double sided tape to install. I haven't found a local car to measure yet but I'd like to know the overall length of C-O-R-V-E-T-T-E from the left side of the C to the right side of the second E. They look to be 2.5-3" from the taillight coves. If anyone can direct me to the data or go and measure yours I'd appreciate it. I'm not building a show car but I'd like to get it as close as reasonably possible. Thanks.
Distance from the C in corvette to the E in corvette is 15 1/8"
Distance from dead center of the reverse light cover lens on the driver side to the edge of the C in corvette is 6 1/2"
Distance from dead center of the reverse light cover lens on the passenger side to the edge of the E in corvette is 6 3/8"
I am curious. The set you bought does not have the pins on the back side of each letter? I take it a previous owner glassed over the holes that were originally there for the letters?
The holes are glassed over. The set I bought does have the pins but I am cutting them off with a rotary tool. I will consult with my body shop friends whether to scuff the backs or not before taping.

Look behind the panel. If you see the holes or fiberglass goo ozzed out through the factory holes. try to break the piece off glue and rements and redrill the holes. There is a big and small pin sized.
Then mount with the acorn nut
I would not suggest glue or tape. Tape will eventually fall off. Glue is a mess
Hope this helps

I’ll agree with Grant here. Unless you can be sure the adhesive tape on the back is quality stuff like 3M VHB tape, I’d look to the mechanical fasteners. I lost a Stingray side badge that didn’t have posts with nuts, so I replaced it with stud/nut arrangement. I didn’t want to throw $50 out the window again.

That is where I was going with my above post. I don't see the 3M tape thing holding. Good luck and yes I agree, look behind the panel.
OK, I will take a look. Any trick on removing the panel? (my car is a roadster so I assume you have to pull the panel that's under the fiberglas deck lid.
You won't be removing anything ( or should not be, that would be expensive).
Just crawl under the ***-end of your car with a flashlight and look at the back of the panel for where the original holes were glassed in. You may want to have your body shop drill them back out and set the letters.
Been a while but it may be easier if you drop the spare tire tub.
Look up Doorgunner’s thread and Pryia’s thread.
I’m pretty sure they posted templates with measurements when they drilled the holes and installed their corvette lettering.
Doorgunner has a 68.
They both have long build threads so it might be easiest to PM them for the information.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
