What is this 1973 car part function?

What does this cylinder do which is attached to the carb and accelerator pieces on a 1973 small block coupe? Haven't checked any manuals yet....

Hello, it's the A/C solenoid. When you turn on your A/C it kicks the idle up a tad so the car won't idle too low. Regards, LowSporty

on the 70 ~ Mid 70s it was just the idle stop solenoid and set the car idle, when the car was turned off it dropped and prevented the cars from running-in. The cars were run hotter then for emissions but sometimes caused dieseling when shut off because of that
AFAIK it was used on the AC in 68/69 but they stopped in 70 and then they might have returned to using it for AC in the later 70s
