I am currently looking at a 1977 that has the same seats as newer models. The owner tells me the seats are original. My question is: Is it possible that at the end of 77 gm started installing interiors for the following model year? Or is it more likely the interior has been swapped. This will be my first Corvette, and I have to say your site has been invaluable in my education.
If same as the newer models you mean the clamshell style they are not original. The changeover was made late 78 to 79 I believe since my 78 did not have that style and it was original.

For at least 20 years Huber Chevy here in Omaha had the last '78 built on their showroom floor & it had '79 seats.
Leather seats in '77 & '78 were the same...
I asked the owner to send me a pic of the trim tag. Is this correct?
My records show the following:
VIN would be somewhere between 14,217 and 17,551 if you have that.
Any VIN between 00,001 and 27,372 would be considered a Early Build 1977
E06 = December 6 1976 build date
Trim 272 = Blue Leather
Exterior Paint 10 = Classic White

Hello Bishop123. I agree with what bmotojoe has posted. In addition, the Trim tag indicates RPO (Regular Production Option) interior option ZJ1
ZJ1 refers to the two-tone interior option code, meaning the seats, door panels and headliner were white and the rest of the interior (carpet, console, dash pads, steering column and wheel, seat belts, and so on) were blue. Other two-tone combinations were available including red/white, buckskin/white, and smoke gray/white
This car obviously has had an exterior color change and an interior swap, based upon your picture of the trim tag and your comments about the later (1979-1982) seats.
good luck!
