Hellow,
I have red all of your information. Let's make some summary.

1, Paint: I do not like that colour and I had been looking for black exterior and brown interior with BB and manual gear box. This combination makes it difficult to find a car in very good condition. Even more I think, that black exterior is not possible to find with brown interior. I expect to change the color of the exterior. If the color is not in good condition, it would be possible to discuss a price reduction with the seller. I was considering changing the color of the exterior with foil. It seems that this solution will not be possible, because the paint defects are also visible on the surface. The top black layer of the foil would probably also be rough. But I will find this out in person at the car.

2, Bird cage: The question is. It is possible to find a vehicle in this price range that has a good condition front window frame.
The prices of these vehicles have increased significantly over the past two years and I am concerned that I may be purchasing another vehicle in the next year or two for even more money and in the same condition as this one.

If you look carefully at the attached photos in the link above, you will find photos of the bottom of the cage. I believe that is the part you are referring to. This one doesn't seem tragic. So it is sprayed with Vaseline, but despite this it is noticeable that it is a slight rust.

My guess is that the window frame will need to be replaced and minor repairs will be needed at the bottom of the window frame. I believe that the lower part of the cage in the footwell will not be tragically affected.

I chose this engine on purpose. Not because of the performance, but because of what the engine represents. In the future I would like to convert this engine from carburetor to direct injection. Although this is another significant investment, but direct injection should only bring benefits. But this is the sound of the future.

My conclusion is as follows. It neede to be carry out a personal inspection of the vehicle using an endoscopic camera and try to estimate the extent of damage to the window frame. If the window frame would be in good condition, I would try to negotiate a lower price for the vehicle and buy it. (becouse of painting defects) The expected investment will be painting the vehicle, and in the case of painting, it would be possible to treat rust on the window frame.

If the lower part of the window frame would be in very poor condition, I would not buy the vehicle.

Does this make sense or am I completely off my mind?

You're out of your mind ....lol. It's not just the sides of the window frame, it'll be the top and lower corners too. You could buy an entire brand new brown interior I bet, for the cost of repairing the windshield frame. You have to buy all the windshield frame pieces (not exactly cheap),, and the fabrication has to be 100% spot on. If it's off a little the top and doors won't fit very well. That kind of skill isn't going to come cheap. Then you'll probably want a new windshield... what if the dash needs to come out? What if the front nose needs to come off? Then you're into a major restoration that could take a couple years and cost a boatload. It adds up.

Best if you can find a black car and just re-do the interior. Then, at least you have brand new interior how you want it. And sell the old interior parts.

The one you're looking at probably isn't as bad as in this thread, but it gives you an idea of what it's all about. Even if it's not nearly as bad, you still need to cut it apart and put in new pieces. It doesn't make any sense to take it apart sandblast it and put fiberglass over the holes...

The birdcage on my car was in real good shape. It's from central valley CA. But even then I needed to sandblast some rust away.

Sounds like a good plan! Inspect carefully.
You have some good pics above to compare too.
As long as the main frame and the lower birdcage is solid, it is safe to drive. The windshield frame just leaks inside or down, and makes things worse.
Black paint was not available originally 1970-1972 so you would be hard pressed to find one.
Good Luck!
