I would never run a car at 14.7 at idle. Way too lean in my opinion. You'd have no color on your plugs
I'm not tuning this car for max performance. It's bone stock, never been apart. Just need it to start and run good.
My Buick 455 on the other hand is a different story. I've been through that Q Jet a half dozen times, the distributor has been curved. It's got 32 degrees all in by 2800. Buicks tend to like less timing than a Chevy. I also limited the vacuum advance to eliminate the slight surge at cruise. Car runs 13.2 at idle and cruise. Plugs look perfect and it runs well.
I richened up the mixture which eliminated the eye burning. I just need to pull a plug and see what color they are and see where the timing mark is on the ground strap
its running well. Starts right up, doesn't smoke at all, plugs look good. Once I get the new exhaust on it, I can get an accurate AFR with my wideband. But I bet I'm really close. I'm curious what it's doing when it gets on the jets
