Default Luggage rack removable?

I’m in the market for an early model c3 and I prefer the look without the luggage rack on the back, but I’ve seen some nice ones that have it and I’m just wondering how easy it is to remove?

It just bolts in place but if you remove it, you’ll have open holes unless you replace with something like button head cap screws.

Easy enough to remove, filling the holes and repainting the rear deck, not so much.

I removed mine… it’s currently in paint shop for total strip down and re-paint.

the shop is going to fill the holes (including antennae) with epoxy resin and filler to hide the holes “supposedly” eliminating any trace of the original holes…

I’ll post the finished product when completed if I can remember to find this thread again.. should be done by November

And then............ 6 - 8 years later as fibreglass always continues to settle. The evidence starts to show.

Its a matter of being properly filled. No different than bonding lines that run front to back on the fenders. I am not the expert on this, but I know my 77 was painted about eight years ago....and there is not one single spot on the car that has any visible or noticeable defects.....and there was plenty of filler materials, etc used to get the bumpers to match properly, and fix many of the factory slop at various places around the car.

However.......I do think fiberglass is more difficult to paint and have a good long lasting finish.....the solvents used to remove the paint, the prep work, the fillers used, and proper timiing of coats is NOT just as simple as it may seem. There is a science to it, that only guys with experience have learned.....and I don't know the science. I only know there is a science to it.

I have a rack for my 71. I did cut down the posts so it sits in a lower position than normal as I thought that looked better.

I run with it sometimes but also have it off a lot.

When I painted the car I had a dozen small plastic plugs primed and painted at the same time. Pop them in the holes and it’s covered up fairly well.

It's good to see shops using decent dust collection.
It definitely provides a cleaner work environment capturing most of what would have otherwise been airborne...
I have a Festool MIDI Bluetooth machine mostly for woodworking....

that’s a good idea and a possible solution…. I guess it seems the best solution is to just buy one that doesn’t have one, but this Serena like a good option!
