Default Coolant level on a 75

Pardon this extremely basic question, I am just beginning to learn these cars. I just wanted to confirm how to check coolant level in a 75 with the recovery tank. After being run the coolant level in the tank is right at the cold mark. Once cool the tank is empty. Am I to simply fill the recovery tank to the cold mark and that’s it? Does the system simply expel whatever it doesn’t need and maintain itself? Also how low on coolant is the car in its current state? Again sorry for this dumb question, I’m new to this and just want to make sure the car has what it needs.

Marked on the pic where the coolant is at right after shutting the car off

The coolant, like almost everything expands when heated. Thus the COLD level mark.
your coolant is low. Add some. It should be right on the cold line the next morning. Right after a drive it will be higher than the cold fill line. But by how much can very. Depends on how hot.

And then check/ add it again after a few heat cold cycles as it should return to exact same cold spot each time..if not, you have a leak.

Thank you…and I can add directly to the recovery tank and fill to cold line and let it work through a couple cycles?

that's correct. No need to remove the rad. cap. Just fill the over flow bottle. When the engine warms it will push excess coolant out and into the bottle. As it cools it will pull it back into the rad. Thus keeping air out of the radiator and the rest of the cooling system.
It can take overnight for all the coolant to return to the rad, so be patient.

I fill my reservoir in my 75 halfway up . When it heats up after a drive it will go up about 1/4 inch but then return to half again. Reason I fill to half mark is , even I ever blow a leak somewhere I will have the extra coolant
