This stereo has been in my 1970 corvette for at least 25 years and still works, Looks nothing like everyone else’s stock stereos. Googling hasn’t helped so far, just interested to find out if it was an option or? Thanks in advance and hope photos work

That's an aftermarket cassette player.
You could only get a radio in '70, am-fm or am-fm stereo.
'79 was the first year a cassette was available & they never said Corvette on the face plate...
You can buy a "Bluetooth cassette" you plug in and play tunes right off yer cellie.
Or do what I did. Bury a bluetooth head unit in the cubby behind the seat, amplifier, everything.... and use the POWER ANTENNA output (12V) from your existing stereo in the dash to turn it on.

I'm assuming by looking at the size of that aftermarket radio / cassette player your center gauge bezel was cut / enlarged to accommodate it. ??? Pics ?

Aftermarket unit from early/mid-70's into the 80's. Several makers did these. Most were made to fit stock opening. Mine happens to be a Pioneer. Came with my 73 and still works good.
