1982 Corvette fuel pump failureS
I had a pump go bad so I ordered a replacement Delphi pump from a large parts distributor. Two days later, not remembering that I already ordered a pump, I placed another order for the same part from the same vendor.
Both pumps arrived. I pulled the old pump and installed one of the new Delphi on the pump / sending unit housing. I did the standard test, turning the key and listening to the pump. NADA, nothing, not a sound. I had already checked the power, and it read 12 volts plus for two seconds when I turned the key on.
OK, bad brand new fuel pump I am thinking. BUT, I had ordered two pumps by accident, which no longer looked like an accident.
I plugged in the second new fuel pump, turned the key on and heard a soft low pitch whine for two seconds coming from this pump. OK, lets give it a try. I got everything installed and went to test the pump. Turned the key on and NADA, nothing, not a sound.. I double checked power, fuses, etc. and all were fine.
i ordered two brand new 1982 fuel pumps and BOTH OF THEM turned out to be bad. How likely IS that?
OK, besides replacing the pump with dynamite, what do I do next? Different brand of pump? Modified fuel delivery system?
I really do no prefer to install an 85 fuel pump.
