Hi Guys
I just bought the car and am now in my fix it mode. The original radio goes on and plays sound but the volume is very very low even when turned all the way to high. Has anyone delt with this problen ? Thanx in advance guys
Might be internal to the radio or possibly the external Amp which is sometimes called connector or the heat sync. It is mounted behind the passenger side dashpad. Need to see if it's there first.
I will look thank you very much . I also read it could be a bad ground . Well after 50 years things need work and I am looking for ideas on how to fix them , Thanx
Stereo or mono radio? If a mono radio, my guess is that the power transistor on the "convector" has failed. The convector is a small aluminum heat sink with one power transistor on it (if stereo, there are two of those transistors on the heat sink). Those transistors can be replaced. You may have to find a "substitute" transistor with similar amplification characteristics, but a different case design. If you substitute for the transistor, make sure that any heat transfer requirements are met when the swap is made. Research on the web. Not brain surgery....but details are important.
