Oh I can relate. Happen back in the 80s with my pickup. I thought it was a bad batch of gas or something similar. Had to pull over about every 10 -15 miles waiting for the fuel bowls to refill. No throttle response. But would idle like a champ.
That vehicle had a canister fuel filter located on the frame. Little did I know it was full of crud.
Try to imagine a fuel bowl with only a half inch of gas. It will idle fine. But not enough fuel to cover the jets or fill the accelerator pump.
There is also the slim possibility that this is the worst vapor-lock and fuel bowl percolation anyone has ever seen.
But again, I believe it's a fuel starvation issue.
Check the short piece of hose between the tank sending unit and the steel fuel line running to the front.....when this collapses internally, it will restrict flow to the pump under demand...but idle all day and even drive around town....
