Default Battery Readings?

To all C3 gurus,

Just took a couple of readings from my battery and I get with the engine off 12.1 volts and with the engine running/no load I get 14.1 volts..

Are the voltage figures correct???

It could be.
With the engine running, you could easily see voltage around 14 vdc.
Once the engine starts the alternator will kick in and take over from the battery.

12.1 seems a bit low. Had it been a while since car was last started? That would also explain the 14.1 running.

I test charging systems everyday. A fully charged 12V. battery should read 12.6 - 12.8 depending on temperature. Generally at room temp your looking for 12.7V. A properly operating voltage regulator should be right 14.1-14.2 V. The amperage will drop down as the battery charges. But voltage should always be reading 14.1 - 14.2 .

I think low battery electrolyte may cause this too. If you have removable caps, check the acid level in each cell. Use only distilled water to bring the level to about 1/4" above the lead plates.
