I am looking at a 1978 C3 and in pictures provided of the under carriage I noticed these apparent beads on certain areas of the metal. Can anyone tell me if this is normal (what causes it?) or if it signals a problem.
Some form of coating has been sprayed underneath. Certainly doesn't signal a problem. But certainly worth looking at. Could just be the previous owner trying to protect and preserve the frame.
That area is neither metal nor the frame. It is the fiberglass floor. As mentioned above, I believe it is merely undercoating sprayed on by an aggressive applier.
Nothing to worry about.

The rest of the photos would be interesting because looking at what little you can see of other areas, the car looks nice - the no-deformed heat shield on the diff must be fairly rare!😄

That's a steel floor in 1978. To know what it covers up, you'd need to see it in person.
Pull the kick panels, and Id even pull back the carpet on the passenger side floor.
I've seen that with a 79 where there were pinholes in the floor pan and POR-15 was painted inside. That was the drip through. But considering the rest of the picture I'd have to agree that it is a ****-poor undercoating job.
