Early 1971s had fully operational headlight washers. As the model year progressed (and parts for the system were phased out and no longer in inventory) it became non-functional. If I recall, the headlight washer nozzles (that were installed in the bezels and directed the fluid at the headlights) were the first to go. At that point, cars began to show up with holes in the bezels, cut washer hoses in the hose bundle, and five port pumps with a jumper hose between two of the four outlets.

I had a fairly early (#3081) '71 LT-1 I bought in the early 90's, and I can remember scratching my head over the cut hoses and wondering what in the world that was all about. Great info!

Rich,
That’s pretty close to the break point when the system was discontinued. Pretty sure NCRS puts it somewhere around serial number 02400. In any case, sounds like an interesting car you had!
