According to my 1984 Black Book Yellow (Metallic) has two GM suggested interiors, black (Blk) and midnight blue (MB). It appears that your car was ordered with an interior color not suggested by GM. I don't understand this because it would seem that black and medium saddle (MS) would be the suggested colors. That also makes me think the 1984 Black Book may have it listed as a misprint. Midnight blue just doesn't sound right for a yellow car. I know several cars of that vintage that had factory green interiors in light yellow cars. I've got a friend with a pale yellow Cutlass convertible with a factory green interior.
I can't figure out how to resize this. It may be overwhelming. I added this because I thought some might think I misread the 1984 Black Book. Maybe they corrected it in the 1985 and up versions.
An interesting note.
the tag says Medium Saddle BUT………
when we bought it the summer of 81 it had Black Leather, leather seats, door panels, dash, console, even Black leather on the underside of the t-tops.
that would be an expensive and tiring job to change the color.
so I wonder if it was born Black and Mis-Stamped with 416 Medium Saddle Leather.

That's a distinct possibility. Since it's been black ever since a year of its manufacture, I'd say it was/is originally black. Given that the 416 is a non-standard color to the met. yellow, I thiink it's a high probability of mistake on the tag.
???
The car was 8 years old when they bought it. Anything could have happened in that time.
And T-tops are not leather lined from the factory.
Yellow Metallic with the Saddle interior is not at all rare or hard to find. It is more likely that the Black Book has the omission error.
I vote for an interior color change.

I apologize... I was mixing threads and was thinking it was an '80 for some reason.
Odd that it's not limited to just the Black Book – all over the internet it's stated that '73 yellow metallic was only available with black or dark blue.
It's like song lyrics brother. Once the wrong lyric is posted somewhere on line it gets repeated ad infinitum, until many believe the error is actually correct.
