On October 8th my wife and I were in a crash. A lady blew through a stop sign and I had nowhere to go. I just got word from Hagerty yesterday that it's a total loss. Not sure what I'll do going forward. While I'd like to find another, there just aren't any 1978 L82 4 speeds that are fully optioned including the Pace Car upper and lower fairings. Take care and keep the sunny side up.
@69L99, my wife had her seat belt on and just her chest hurt for a while, but I didn't put mine on after filling up and my head hit the windshield frame and it definitely left a mark, lol. Luckily it was on my eyebrow, so in a year or two it shouldn't be all that noticeable. Yeah, lot's of 79's, but not with that configuration or more importantly, for sale

Glad your ok. See what Haggerty wants for it ? Maybe buy it back, I have seen worse repaired, but hard to tell from only 2 pics ................ya never know !!!
@427SIXPACK, thanks! Yeah, buying it back was a thought. When you stand behind it, it looks straight. Just the fiberglass is pushed to the side, but I'm assuming they put it on a lift, looked under the hood etc. There are a few Silver Anniversary ones out there that are nice, I'd just have to upgrade the seats and add the upper and lower spoilers to make them like mine so I might go that route. My wife doesn't want an "old" car around anymore so I go C7 too, lol.
@Opium Motors you'll have to contact Hagerty. I'm taking the check plus whatever they give me for the car. I don't have the space or time to part it out or sell it.
I imagine that a crash is the nightmare scenario for any classic car owner, especially one with a fiberglass body, and it’s very fortunate you are both okay. I can totally relate to your wife’s wanting a new Corvette.

Fiberglass & the Vette frame are stronger then you & many others might think. Been there, done that, 50 mph head on into a pole with 4spd '76. I sold the car to a body shop in Massachusetts near Springfield in 1986 or 87. They rebuilt it & have no idea what happened to it after that, but I personally didn't have any medical issues at all. Lucky to get out & walk away. I used the money to buy a '77 Trans Am - man I really miss that 4 spd TA !!! Much, much more then the '76 Vette !!
Pics to follow if I can find some. Maybe the VIN too incase it's still on the road, but the current owner might NOT want to see the pics from the morgue
@427SIXPACK Funny. A '77-78 Trans Am was what I wanted in high school after my dad said no to a vette. I ended up with a 78 Rally Sport Camaro. Loved that car and would like either a TA or Camaro, but they're trending higher than Corvettes right now by $10-15k. That's why a c7 is in the running.
