A C-7 is a great car, centuries beyond the C3 on the evolutionary scale. But I don't see myself every owning one. They are so competent it is difficult to use its high limits on the street. I figured out a long time ago for me it is not actual speed, it is the sensation of speed that I enjoy. So an open car with a V8 exhaust, rowing thru the gears...to me that is the fun. The C-7 will have you at "Go Directly To Jail" speeds if you toe the accelerator, to say nothing of flooring it. And technology is fine for my daily driver, but my classic that sits a lot? Keep it simple. The C-4 and C-5 cars are already suffering with some electronic components not being available any longer. The early cars are pretty easy to keep on the road. Something to think about for a toy. Insurance and taxes are cheap with a classic. Even with my spotless driving record, a C-7 is going to make my insurance agent break out in hives.
So Sorry to hear of your accident, but I agree, the important issue is both you and your wife are fine. You are correct, finding 1978 Silver Anniversary or Pace Cars that year, with L82's and 4 speeds are becoming more difficult to find. Especially ones like yours that had low miles/clean - prices are climbing. I just completed a mild restoration, all it needed with 55,000 miles one owner, this month. Reside in So CA and collectors continue to approach me at shows that want to purchase it.
I have a C6 and C7 as well, I agree with others, step into a newer model, you would not be disappointed. Attractive prices today on C7's and C6's are growing.

That's what I was thinking when I drove the '11 ZR1. Oh what trouble I could get into tonight with 638 hp....
Effortless acceleration at any speed or in any gear. It was something else. But one thing amazed me more...
You could also putt around like a Camry. When I was a kid that kind of horsepower was drag strip-race track only...
