We purchased a 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette with a little over 13,000 miles. All original except the radio and antenna. We cannot locate the build sheet and were wondering HOW we can find the exact radio that goes in this vehicle.
Any information available out there that can help us? It even has the original tires on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
*******NOTE******* I ordered the build sheet and received it today. Now, there's another question that I must ask. It states the car came with a "STEREO TAPE W/AM/FM STEREO RADIO" The question is, 8 track tape or cassette? It's a 1978 Silver Anniversary.

Reason: Additional information
There were only four radios available for the '78, all Delco radios. I would think only one of them would be popular today, namely, the AM/FM stereo model. The other three choices would be; one with a CB, one with an 8-track tape player, and an AM/FM radio without stereo. AM/FM stereo with cassette tape wasn't available until the following year. I don't know if I've helped you.
Does the glove box have partitions in it. Or at least holes where partitions were removed from it.
That would indicate an AM/FM/8 track.
No partitions, no mounting holes, AM/FM or AM/FM/CB.
If you have access to under the radio there would be 2 co/ax cables in the vicinity for CB.
Rear speakers? That would likely rule out AM/FM mono.
I received the build sheet and it says and I quote "Stereo Tape W/AM/FM Stereo Radio. I'm assuming it was an 8 track since you say they did not have a cassette until the following year......correct? Without a doubt?
Please advise.

look up the rpo codes for 78 to confirm. There was no cassette in 1978.

There remains always some level of doubt when it comes to Chevrolet production equipment and options back in the day. When building the C3, Chevrolet was relatively consistent, but a far cry from absolutely consistent. They were trying to sell cars, satisfy customers, and turn a profit in the midst of myriad developments regarding thousands of variables that were happening non-stop. Not unlike today.
If the 1978 model year build sheet states the RPO for the radio was UM2, then the car was probably equipped with the 8-track stereo radio when new. The cassette stereo radio (UN3) is not showing as available until the 1979 model year. However, it wouldn't surprise me if a few might have made it into '78 cars.
One requirement of the redesigned center console for the '77 model year was that it would accommodate the full line of Delco radios that included the integrated radio/tape players offered on many other models at the time.
We have determined that our 1978 Corvette came with an AM/FM/8 track radio and we are trying to find a really nice replacement. Does anyone know EXACTLY what it supposed to look like? We have found several different 8 tracks but not sure which one this car specifically requires. We are trying to have it NCRS judged and want to get it correct. Any help/photos would be even better, would be appreciated.
Also, any information on getting another set of OEM keys made would be helpful as well.

B. Ransome

Buy the key blanks based on letter code on original from a Corvette vendor and have them locally cut.

OH! Thank you. We need the glove box piece that holds the 8 tracks too. Do you perhaps have the drivers side seat belt? It is black in color.
Just the 8-track. Seems like I saw seatbelts on the For Sale section of the forum. Do a search and see what you find. You may find you're going to be picking up a set.
