Default Automatic Overdrive Transmission Conversion

Hi All, Really need some help. Have a 75 convertible with 350 engine. I’m looking for a complete automatic overdrive transmission kit complete. I found Silver Sport Transmissions has a A41 - 4L60e automatic overdrive kit that's complete, no need to fabricate or hunt down anything. Has anyone used their A41-4L60e kit? Is it any good or reliable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A quick look at their website shows it as "This is the basic builder's kit, cutting and/or fabrication will be required for installation."
I believe there's not a great difference between a 4l60 and a 700r except for whatever computer is being used to control it all. Probably worth contacting them to have that clarified

Not too difficult to piece together a 2004R install set up, little needed for a th350 conversion... transmission, torque converter, TV cable and bracket and a lock up kit. Bowtie Overdrives sells everything to do a 2004r conversion, 79 and under uses existing crossmember with bracket unbolted and uses same length drivesahft... no mods
I was about $3400 all in with Bowtie Overdrives for everything needed including core and shipping till someone I knew was selling theirs... still purchased accessories through B.O.

I imagine it would need a crossmember change unless one comes with the kit, also a drive shaft cut again unless a shorter one come with the kit, 700R4 should just require a lock up controller and not a computer to run function

looks like a nice kit , ask them if your speedometer will work with their 4L60E . The electronics on these eliminates the TV cable and messing with the governor to get the shifts right . This computer can split gears with the TCC from 1st all the way to 4th to limit rpm drop between gears under acceleration and improve economy when you’re not (just like new cars)instead of just 4th gear lockup like 200R4 and non computer 700’s . The only trouble I see is just verifying this will work with a gear driven speedometer

I have the kit on my 78. I cannot tell you how well the trans is, as my build is not done. I can tell you about my frustration thou. I also did a LS swap, the kit I received was supposing a direct attachment to the LS6. They sent the wrong cover plate. It was for the original engine on the 78, they did send the correct one. Next, there were two covers to block some open areas between the housing and the trans. Once again the one for the starter was wrong and the one for the driver side didn't really fit. They sent the correct cover for the starter and a GM replacement, which was a worse fit than the original cover. I ended up using a dremel and modifying the original cover to make it fit much better. The next problem area was the new trans cross member to mount the tail. I believe the transmission cross member is removable on automatic cars. They supplied a new member, but the holes to mount to the frame were not correct. Once again out comes the dremel, Modified the holes so the member can bolt up to the frame. The next problem was with the location for the horizontal bolt tube on on the new member. If I bolted the member directly to the frame, the horizontal bolt tube was nowhere close to be aligning with the bracket on the frame. In the instruction there was a picture which clearly showed spacers between the frame and the member.
I had several discusses with them and each time they sent what I needed. I have to assume I am not the only person that has encountered these issues. I guess others just did what they needed to do to mount the member. The folks at SST are really nice and apologetic, but that only goes so far. For what you're paying, you expect it to be right, or in the instruction it should state what you might have to modify. I can also tell you my colleague also purchased a trans from SST for his 77 grand prix and is very happy with it, but he did run into some issues which he was not expecting.
I assume this statement was put in after all the problem I pointed out, "This is the basic builder's kit, cutting and/or fabrication will be required for installation." It was not on the website when I purchased my kit. In the end, they stood behind what they sold and for me that says a lot.

The cutting and fabrication is for the Mopar boys mainly that are converting to the 4L60/65E from 727’s , 904’s and 518’s , the Corvette won’t need any

Unless they made correction, I would count on you having to modify something.

Thanks.
I put their kit in my '73 back in 2020. It came with everything I needed including transmission fluid. For the mechanical side of the install, I didn't have to cut or fabricate anything other than one hole in the cross-member they provided needed a tiny bit of enlargement to get the bolt in. Probably due more to my particular car than their kit. My kit came with the CompuShift Sport transmission controller which uses an A/B switch so you can have two different shift programs. I did make a bracket for that switch to hang under the steering column. Very happy with the kit and their customer service.

Good luck.
