I about to go crazy. I'd like to order some new interior parts but I am confused about what color. VIN confirms it is an 1980. Trim tag shows 642, which was not a color in 1980. Pulled the build sheet from the gas tank and it shows 642 DOESKIN. 1981 had a CAMEL that was 642 but that is definitely not the color. 1977 had BUCKSKIN that was 642 but it was a different style seat and a 1977 seat cover will not fit the 1980.

I would be going crazy as well!
Another 1980 owner contacted me about his 1980 because his buildsheet shows Doeskin with the correct 1980 interior codes, 591 and 59C, He's got the cloth. But he says the color is off from Doeskin and wants to replace some interior parts, carpet but is confused. He retrieved the top part of the buildsheet but the bottom is still on the tank. I learned that in 1980, Doeskin is a non-recommended color for his yellow car...Oyster being the recommendation.
I would like to see your trim tag and the entire buildsheet. The buildsheet lists several other interior color codes like steering wheel, seat belts, carpet, etc. I can compare to the yellow 80.
If you have your full VIN, you can order your dealer invoice from GM for $50-. It might save some heartache, and it's a cool document. Get a free vehicle information kit, at any rate.
Also, Top Flight (Corvette America) will send you leather samples if you ask. That was helpful for me, as there are two different Oyster interiors in 79.
You sure you can't pull a VIN or date off that build sheet? 2.72 rear gear and L81 engine are 100% 81 options.
Check the other VIN locations.
I do still have the original motor and the VIN stamped on the block matches the VIN on the A-pillar. The original motor was also a CCC motor. I removed all the electronics when the crate motor went in.

Unless you are concerned with NCRS, I would just do the color you like that comes closest. I went through a similar thing on my 82 at one point when I was redoing my carpet. I installed the correct color carpet and removed it after almost a year and went with an entire interior change to a darker carpet, almost like cinnamon carpet (dark camel) and door panel carpet with the correct leather panels and seats color. There was a dark and a light camel. I purchased this from Mid America when they were called that. Their customer service guy in interiors was VERY helpful back then and even sent me samples. The contrast IS much better and doesn't look dirty by just looking at it like the original color did, that I hated. Do what you like or looks best IMO. GL
That's an 81 trim tag, an 81 CCC system, and 81 build sheet. Without opening a big can of worms, which is easier to replace?
Does the car have a 2.72 diff or 3.07? Another clue.
None of it matters. The OP need to match the interior that is actually in the car, or what's on the trim tag, or whatever color he wants!
Car has 2.72.
I want to avoid having to paint the other interior parts to match the seats in the event the new seat covers don't come close.
It confuses me that if the build sheet is from a 1981, 642 DOESKIN, which is listed on the build sheet, was not an option. 642 in 1981 is CAMEL. Cthe seat covers I pulled off are definitely not camel.
