While converting my 73 vet to a four-speed from an automatic. I found that the opening in the transmission tunnel for the automatic shifter is larger than the components for the fo I have been unable to find the retainer which rivets to the fiberglass on the underside of the tunnel for a four speed. The opening is obviously smaller for this retainer than for the automatic the only part number you can find is for the automatic and most supply houses show it’s the same for the four-speed as for the automatic, but as presented in this picture, it is obviously not This is the part number that I cannot find which would allow me to install the floor boot and upper retainer for the four-speed shifter

The part number listed is for a four speed, but in their listing, it clearly says for an automatic the automatic and 4 speed retainer is not the same part different sizes. That’s the issue.
most suppliers list the four-speed part number incorrectly for an automatic part. Read their description, it says, automatic, not for speed, and if you look at the assembly manual, the opening for the automatic is more than 1 inch larger than the four speed.
I converted my 73 about 20 years ago when I was in high school. I used a piece of sheet metal that I cut from the side of my parents dryer that had stopped working. I went back to look at some of my old threads from 20 years ago to see if the pictures were still there. I also read a few things that I did and boy, I did some bonehead stuff. So maybe don't follow my suggestion. I was bubba.
