Default Body Dolly Plans

I seem to recall seeing plans for a body dolly for the C3 body but can not locate them on here. Does anyone have plans for one? I plan to remove the body off a 1969 I just purchased but need some type of a dolly first to hold it once off. I will likely fab it out of metal but even wood plans would be helpful.
Thanks, Pete

Don’t overthink the matter. Essentially, you’re going to want to:

1. Build a central section that will support the main weight of the body. Use 2x6s.

2. Build a forward section that will support the weight of the surround. This is critical as there is a LOT of weight hanging off the cowl that, if not supported, will put undue stress on the fiberglass in the cowl area.

3. Height of the dolly is personal preference.

4. Be sure to cross brace taller dolly structure.

5. Casters need to be of a size to handle the weight. Don’t cheap out on those.

I recently built the dolly for my 73 using Alan71’s design. Get it as square as possible. Pay close attention to the detail and uprights. Alan’s measurements were exactly on center and my uprights set right on center with the body mounts. Once you set the body onto the dolly make sure you support the front clip. I just needed to lay a strip of 5/8” plywood across the rails and it supported the front clip perfectly.

I built the dolly for my '72 using Alan71's plans with some modifications for supporting the nose. That dolly has worked out well for the storage of the body but now that I'm done with the chassis and moving on to working on the body, I need to lift the whole thing higher in the air so the underside is accessible (no lift.... yet). Its not a really a big deal but had I thought about it more then, I would have used one of the raised dolly plans..

Do you plan to adapt your present dolly with higher "legs"?

Yes, I'm thinking about using three inverted T-shaped "saw horses" for lack of a better description. Obviously built to carry the weight and the inverted T-shape should help with stability. If I run a "2-by" diagonally on each side, it should prevent any racking of the horses. I can use the gantry crane to pick it up, place the sawhorses under the current dolly, and secure the dolly to the horses.... still just thoughts but where I'm looking.

It was very easy to build and the plans were perfect. It's not heavy and rolls very easily and the body doesn't shift when moving it. Detailed plans and materials are in the attached pdf.
