I recently purchased a 72 Corvette with factory AC. It has one kick panel vent on the passenger side only. Behind the kick panel is a vacuum operated actuator, which currently does not appear to work. I tested the actuator by itself with a vacuum pump and it opens and closes the door as you might expect.
Question: What position does the climate control switch need to be in for this door to receive vacuum and in turn open? I tried all positions and it still doesn't open.
Question: Where can I find a vacuum hose diagram so I can trace the vacuum hose to see it is connected and where?
I should have probably mentioned in my original post above that the Climate Control Switch appears to work correctly when I choose defroster or heater. Therefore, I don't think it is a vacuum source issue. Maybe the Control Switch is bad?
Here is a drawing that I updated from GM's documents. It is for a '69, but I don't think that there are many differences between a 69 and a 72.
It should give you a basic idea of what to look for.

On my 73 there is a “fresh air door” located in front of the passenger A Piller ( down in the exterior vent). Weird, but after I restored my van and the vent, the vent will lose once the engine vacuum is built up. The vent lets in outside air. The vent in the kick panel is closed unless you hit recirculate. I don’t knif the 72 models worked differently?
There is great tutorial on how to replace the rubber gasket on the air doors, I bought the rubber at one of the large craft box stores.
You likely have a vacuum manifold issue (device that distributes the interior HVAC vacuum where it needs to go). It resides on the left side of the heater control head in the tranny console. They do go bad and leak or have broken-off '****'.
The best reference material for this system if the Chevrolet Shop Service Manual for your year car. Most of the C3 parts vendors carry repros of them; or you can find copies on E-bay occasionally.
