For purists, a numbers matching car is required. For someone who just wants a fun driving car, the numbers do not matter. I bought my 68 big block 4 speed convertible about six years ago and finished a lot of stuff the previous owner started. The car has Ecklers fender flares to accommodate 20 inch wheels on the back and 18 inch on the front.. The original small block was switched out for a completely rebuilt 454 bored .030 over from a one ton truck. I added aluminum heads, a bigger cam, electronic ignition and fixed the many redneck electrical problems from the former owner. New wiring harnesses, all new gages on dash, complete suspension rebuild front and back, drilled brake rotors, Aluminum radiator, electric fan, suspension cross brace, new front springs, all new shocks. Lotsa other stuff to make the car dependable and fun to drive. The big block makes a rumbling exhaust that turns heads of the Prius drivers. I'm trying to decide my next modification......think I would like to have the radio work on an accessory circuit so I do not have the rest of the electrical stuff fired up. I have another post to ask if the ignition switch has an "accessory" position. Anyway, some thoughts from the fun driver of this car.
My car is a 77, but as a young man I owned a few Chevys from the early to late 60's. All had an accessory position on the switch. Left twist. And all ran the radio on accessory.
My slow-working brain also reminded me there should be a left twist position for the ignition switch. The old switch that was on the car when I got it did not have an accessory position. It was part of the electrical mess done by the previous owner.
