Default 71 corvette electrical

Here is a dumb question with hopefully a nice and simple solution. No engine currently in the car, but I figured I could use this time to check my electrical. How do I get power to the car? To see what does and doesn’t work?

thanks!

Read this cautionary tale:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...er-wiring.html

And consult a wiring diagram:

https://wordpress.keystonestatecorve...m/?page_id=118

Then determine what you need. A starter, properly grounded to the chassis, and wired correctly, should be a suitable substitute for a complete engine, if you don't crosswire anything. A power supply (current limited) is safer than a battery for initial hookup.

The wires that connect to the large terminal of the starter solenoid would need to be joined together. Then install battery. Away you go!

ya, its not rocket surgery. The key will still control the power that is going inside the cabin. The power going to the alternator and the horn relay will still be live.

engine only supplies power running, not running, battery.
worries me because many hot wires connect to engine and with engine out those wires are hanging loose.
get a wire diagram to find and identify these wires

What hot wires...coil, and.......already mentioned alternator so theres 2. Just put tape on them, dont put them in your mouth. I have to say that since you kids like to eat Tide Pods and we have to remind you of these things in todays world.
