Default Splash Shields on a 1978?

A friend has shown me the new inner splash shields he has fitted to his 1964 , that go just behind the front wheels, on the inside of the frame.

It got me looking at my '78. The area where the shields fit on the '64 is here:

I can see holes in the frame that correspond to where the shields are screwed to the '64 frame.
However, my '78 does not have the shields and I am wondering if it ever did. I had a look through my AIM and couldn't see any reference to them.
Anyone have them?
I'm not sure I'm desperate to have them as they would get in the way of certain jobs, but I could see a benefit in wet weather maybe? That said, the old car has survived all weathers up until now!

I looked into this on my 78 as well. I don't think they came with them, just the older ones. I recently (like this weekend) mounted my remote LS coils there and I'm looking for a way to protect them. I might give them a shot now.

My 78 has them. Most likely someone took them off to get to something on the lower inner fender. On the driver side the charcoal cannister on the pass side the a/c dryer, for example. I got new ones from Zip a few years ago.

Are you talking about the inner or outer shields? It looks like C2s had the inner shields by the header and the 70-79 had the outer which does behind the front wheel well and the rocker (has a rubber seal). The inners bolt to the frame and go towards the oil pan and look like they are only listed for the C2. I wonder what the differences are between the c2 and c3 in that area.

If you are referring the area under the charcoal canister and the AC item on the passenger side, yes 78 have them, mine does. Otherwise I don't know what splash shield you are talking about.

Removed it to get to the charcoal canister.

I'm referring to the inner shields.
My car has the outer shields, this is the right side:

These are what kanvasman posted photos of.

The inner guards would fill the space in my original picture, in effect hiding the brake compensator etc on the left side.

I'll check out the AIM Section 11 again!👍

Hi Stephen, there are no inner shields on my 78. I'm pretty sure there are not supposed to be, as I had to buy the outer shields since mine were missing and I would have got the inner ones as well if they existed.

63-67 came with both the inner and outer splash shields. 68-79 Corvettes only came with outer splash shields with the rubber seals on them shown above in Kanvasman's post. To my knowledge there were no splash shields used on 80-82's.

On 65-67's with side pipes the rubber seal was left off of the outer shields. I think the seals were left off 69's with side pipes too, but all other cars came with rubber seals on the outer splash shields.

Hi John. Thanks. I sort of felt that there weren't supposed to be any - I didn't recall seeing them when I was doing the NCRS stuff back in the UK - but I a bit of doubt crept in when I saw the holes that would have been perfect for fitting them!😄

Thanks for that. Good to know that I haven't got to hunt around for parts!😄 I was just interested that the apparent fitting holes were still there in '78.

I just ordered the 64-67 corvette inner splash shield mounts, brackets and bolts for my 78. I want to add them to protect my floors and my relocated LS remote mount coils. I saw the holes in the frame on mine as well. I was going to make them out of metal or aluminum but if these provide decent protection and a factory fit its a win win.

I'll be interested to see photos of the installation when you've done it.👍

Will do! I ordered through corvette central (I normally use Topflight) and not sure how long it will take to ship.
