My speedometer is bouncing bad. I just had my dash apart to replace lightbulbs and change the tach board which now works. I pulled out the cable that goes from speedometer head to cruise control transducer. Cable looked good but cleaned and lubed it. I also tested speedometer with a drill and torque bit and it was nice and smooth. Put all together and speedometer still jumps the exact same. So I narrowed the problem down to lower cable or transducer. Will the lower cable pull out if I remove cable from transducer or does it have to be removed from transmission? I think they go in 1 way. Any tips how to clean and lube the transducer? I have to remove transducer anyway because my windshield washer fluid bottle must have cracks on bottom because fluid just pours out not near the hose or pump area.
Usually, a bouncing speedo is lack of lube somewhere in the two miles of cable.
Do you plan on keeping Cruise-Control? If not, just buy a new cable from dash to tranny and by-pass the transducer.
Sometimes those transducer get all funky inside. So, I would remove the cable at the tranny and transducer, clean & lube as you did with the shorter cable.
Then if no improvement, you will know what's at fault here.
Don't use any oil or lite weight grease. It can wick and auger its way into the transducer and into the speedometer cluster (not good).
You need a lube that can handle heat and not climb the inside of the cable sheath.
I have had good results from Hoppes Gun Grease.
