Default A question for the lowered crowd

Anybody with a lowered C3 have any issues with the rear Y pipe too close the ground? Ive had a complete exhaust put on the car and might need to replace the Y pipe but not if it's going to do the same thing, might have to have one built. Raising the car up is not an option. Don't like lowered cars, don't bother to respond negatively.

Oh I like lowered cars. I also like cars that handle at speed.
these cars lift at high speed if the rear isn't slightly higher than the front.
That said.
I see 2 issues. One, you have gone 2 far with lowering the rear.
Two. All exhaust systems will have to get under your rear suspension.
Me, I had skid plates welded to the low area's. On my true dual exhaust.
I know you said not to comment on lowered cars. Mine is lowered, but my rear not so low. Low mind you. But high speed handling matters.
Food for thought.

Another thought. These cars new were listed as having 4 inches of ground clearance.
Guess the lowest point?
Yup, that exhaust in the back.
Now drop your rear 2 1/2 inches.
Ground clearance with factory Y pipe?

,,,
Thats the low spot. Custom pipes could help a little. A flattened pipe might gain 1/2 ". Just a thought,, make shure your half shafts are in a level horizontal line when the car is at rest. This will set exactly how low that car can safely go. Then take your measurements for pipes. If you have 4" ground clearance, you win!

Maybe it's the angle of the photo, maybe it's the "Carolina Squat" (TM), but you should look at adding the front air dam.

No diff issues with sidepipes! Though they can scrape on speed bumps.

86 the Y-Pipe.....run true duals custom and have oval tubes run in that section........the stock 2-1-2 exhaust is a cork.....hopefully the converter is gone......that piece of garbage is worth about 25hp and 3-4 mpg.......
And as said.....it wouldn't hurt to come up about 1/2" in the back.....I don't think it would look bad at all.....

I agree with the other guys, front is too high, or rear is too low. Do you have coil-overs?

I agree with the majority of the recommendations above.

My car is lowered, and I'm running 3" pipes, so even with squished/ovalled pipes I get the occasional scrapes on the section under the differential. I deal with this acknowledged issue by welding on a sacrificial additional piece/layer under the affected pipe area. I obviously lose an additional 1/16" of ground clearance, but I can live with it.

Not even sportscars? Which is what Corvettes were originally designed to be, not off road vehicles.

If you've lowered it by extending the hanger bolts, and the rear spring ends are adjacent to the tire sidewalls, you've created a dangerous situation. If the spring grabs the tire for some reason you will lose all control.

Very true. There are leaf springs available that are slightly narrower to fix that problem.

Occasional scrape but not very often. My diff sits a bit higher with VanSteel delrin mounts and removal of the stock rear spring (using coilovers) does give a little more space for the exhaust to pass. Custom exhaust to tuck up as high as possible but running low will always have the occasional scrape.

While I do appreciate the input this isn't even on the same page. With a setup like that the pipes hangin too low would be the last thing I'd be worried about.

Ive shaved the ends of the spring. I had planned on running a set off coil overs, got them in the front but don't want to weld anything on the car. I do need to crank down the rear spring to stiffen up the rear. I've bought this car about 3 years ago and have been pretty much working on it non stop, cars got 12,500 original miles, sat in a garage for 35+ years so in addition to getting it back on the road a Ive done a few mods along the way. I do need to put the front spoiler back on the car. This picture was before I dropped the back down to where it is now.
