Default An hard-line fitting

I got this fitting for my fuel line, I used one of these type of fittings in the past, but I am not sure what the silver part is used for, it is smaller than the 3/8...... My last one didn't have it, different brand, this one is jegs brand

If I recall the silver part goes into the line to keep it from being crushed while you are putting it all together. And it stays in there when done. The brass ferrule slips on the outside of the line. I have used similar things on nylon/plastic lines. You slip the line into the red piece then put the silver piece inside the line and then the ferrule on the outside of the line. I honestly have never connected a ahard line with an AN fitting, always used stainless braided, but it looks like it would work.

I don't think that's supposed to be part of that fitting... (Almost looks like someone just cut the end off a hose bulge pipe)

I think Mooser is correct and the silver piece doesn’t belong in the set.
What does the manufacturer’s website show?

Wellllll maybe just put it into that one drawer of the toolbox where all the random things that you're not sure about but look too important to toss out go, just in case it's supposed to be there.....

Agreed. Keep it for future use/reference.

I have a few boxes of bolts/screws/nuts that have been getting filled over the years. Every 'extra' item from takeoffs/rebuilds/etc.... over the last 30 years has ended up in the boxes.

Has come in handy many times with the most recent being a bolt I removed from a VW Rabbit 25+ years ago worked on my 2018 RAM truck last year. Saved me a trip to the parts store or waiting on an on-line order.

Yeah I've got this draw full of stuff that certainly look important but I have no idea what they are for

I put stuff in a box for the year.
New Year’s day, if I don’t recognize it or if I haven’t used it yet, the box goes in the trash and I start another.
I do keep a couple small bins of new nuts and bolts for when I need one, but other than that, I just don’t have the room to keep stuff.

I keep it until I'm emotionally too attached to it to throw it away... My family will have to bring in a dumpster for a few weeks when I'm gone...

These fittingare for attaching hard line like the stock fuel line to braided line that goes to your pump or regulators. I have one each on my supply and my return lines....still need to connect the return line
