I'm always playing around with ideas for cool updates on all my vehicles. This is on our '75. Got new lens for it, ( '75 has one piece light style ). Then found bright LED truck lights that have same diameter.
Cut my new 75 lights in half and trimmed them to accept the truck lights inside.
Glued them back together.
Then wired it all up using weather tight connectors. ( this way it can all be easily reversed to origonal if someone wants )
It turned out great, and now I have super bright tail lights, turn & brake, and reverse lights in all four lights.

NICE ! You're a brave man splitting those sealed lights in half
For those of us who aren't ready to do a conversion on older vehicles...spraying the inside of the metal housing with Chrome paint will make the 1156/1157 bulbs look about 50% brighter.

One mod on my list is to get rid of my backup lights in the rear tail lights and go to all 4 being brake lights. I'm going to relocate the backup lights in the valence like on the 1968's using late model Camaro backup light assemblies.
THANKS GUYS! I've wanted 4 tail lights ever since I had my '68. AND still have reverse lights. My wife typically follows me in her C5 and regularly told me my lights were dim.
My original lens we're sun faded and even with brighter new bulbs, it wasn't adequate next to newer vehicles. So, new lens and red LED diodes did the job. When the weather brakes, ill have someone help with pics.
I did this back in 2008. Factory trim rings around the outsides.
I needed amber signals in the rear when I moved to Australia. I didn't want to give up my 4 tail lights. The turn signals double as back up lights. The reverse switch wire through the turn signal switch in place of the brake light wire. Australian legal. I have 4 tail lights, amber turns and amber back ups.
