Hello everyone I got on here for several reasons. One because I love Vettes and the second was I need a little help. I lost my son this last Thanksgiving morning to the horror of Fentanyl. He OD'ed in the back seat of my car. So now im stuck with four cars and I need to get rid of several but I have no idea where to start on pricing so I thought I might get some suggestions here. I think I can get some pictures up and info and hear some of your suggestions.
I thought id start with this. A '69 convertible Needs to be a complete re-do. I have all the parts I believe except a front bumper. 327 not original. Was built by a guy named Les Lennington who was a Racer of some reknown here in the Northwest years ago. 4 Speed Headers and side pipes.
The car was blue on the day I bought it and overnight before I brought it home the owner sprayed it with primer and stole the transmission. So it was a lawsuit soon after that to try and make it right. Just a short backstory. My cars were all towed to my sister in laws house because code enforcement came around and said all cars on my property need to be licensed and running. Well they werent because we were working on them so i had a mad rush to get them out of here because they were going to fine me and tow them out of here if I didnt. And now I need to do something with some of them cuz my heart just isnt in it anymore
First off, so sorry to hear about your Son. That must be really hard.
Now, certainly someone out there will want to save this 69. Because it's a 69, and a vert. But.
It looks really, really rough. And no pictures of what the frame and bird cage look like. Or the interior for that matter. A guy could be upside down on a project like this real quick.
Given the lack of important pictures. I'd have to say it isn't worth much.
These were just a starting point. Interior and all the parts are in the garage boxed. im moving them to new homes and will then pull them all out or if I get some interest. I wasnt really planning on this but now Im forced to do it so I'm just asking for info
Here is a question. Ive been out of working on these for years and I keep seeing mention of the "birdcage" as I read threads on here. I dont want to sound stupid but just what is that.
its a 69. title says 69 i have a 68 ill be showing in a while. Curious though what makes you mention the doors? first time I have ever heard that and I dont see any difference between the two. Of course I wasnt looking for or thinking there was any difference. You learn something every day.
That sure looks like a "PUSHBUTTON".... that would be a 68 pushbutton. What's the VIN? Do you have a picture of the dash? That thing looks really rough.
The bird cage. Sorry I don't have a photo ready to put up. Although many have on here.
The bird cage is the steel structure that surrounds the passengers compartment. Holds the windshield. Mounts the body to the frame in 6 of the 8 mounts.
And all the body panels are glued to. Holds up the doors, etc.
If the bird cage is rusty. At best you have a parts car.
Frame's can be repaired or replaced. The birdcage will end this car's life.
First, sorry for your loss. You will be able to get a great deal of help with value here. And the more pictures the better. Now this car will not be numbers matching so that part can be skipped. But buyers will want to see a picture of the vin on the windsheild pillar and the trim tag on the drivers front door jamb. That will give the original paint color and interior color. Pictures of of the windsheild frame showing the birdcage. And in order to establish value on this one you might start by listing all the parts that go with it to rebuild. That will go a long way. I would also differentiate between old parts taken off that need restoration and brand new. For example, if you have a brand new interior and top in boxes ready to go that's a big bump.
I would also start a new thread and title it Need help with value. That will get the attention of the experts here rather than just need help. start with this car and do a new thread on each car as you put together the pictures and lists of parts. I'm sure you're gonna get a lot of help. I will be looking for it for sure.
