Default Rare options education

Greetings lady's and gentlemen,

In my quest to gather documentation for my 77 I Gm to send me the build sheet and its fairly readable !

and i was wondering if you folks knew if any of its options are rare and i should pay special attention to or if its just standard fair.

Second bit that is probably more suited for the Tech section , if im reading this correct it has the BorgWarner M21 close ratio trans- Im not a manual guy that's where they keep the magic and pixies - i found a chart giving me the ratios but i dont know what im really looking at. can someone point me in the direction of some resources so i can learn.

build sheet

L82 4-speed! If you are going to keep the stock drivetrain, that's the one to get.

G95 and M21 were both very rare options that year. The vehicle information kit (available at the same site that sold you that dealer invoice), has more info, including available and transmission ratios. You'll have to look up (or measure) what diff you have (3.08 or 3.36 perhap), but your M-21 should have a 2.43:1 first gear.

im hoping to keep the stock as offten as possible in my resto but when ever it becomes unreasonably expensive to order a part then im going to mod it - Ex cost of control arms is nutty same price i can retrofit the front with coilsprings ( still undecided here )

if im reading this right with the 2.43 it would normally be 3.70 but they paid for the G95 so it should be 3.55 ?

Perhaps. I'm not really sure. 3.08 is a great highway gear (that's what is stock in my 80 4-speed). I'd go measure your diff if you can (easy on jackstands, or math in 4th on the highway with GPS speed on your phone). There's also a code (and lots more interesting codes at this site), but since axle ratios can be changed, it's still best to measure.

Did you mean "front semi coil-overs"?

Replacement upper and lowers avg price per stamped steel arm i saw was about 300 per arm so ~ 1200 for a set and its 1400 for these ( quality not investigated just a quick reference )

Ah, okay.

There are a lot of parts of these cars that make zero sense to keep stock. Unless you want a completely stock car. Then it makes more sense to rebuild most things. I don't know about those arms in particular (My semi coil-over solution was made from individual components, and ended up costing more), but suspension improvements are usually a great idea, if they are balanced and make the car safer and more fun to drive. That's another good thread to start!

Back this thread, I did not see "FE7", or "Gymkhana suspension" on your dealer invoice. No problem, you can easily surpass that capability with some simple mods. @interpon has a 79 L82 4-speed that he has gone to great lengths to keep stock, including the FE7 suspension, if you choose that route instead.

to be honest with you i was considering a solid axel swap but i feel like that would be near sacrilege at this point as it appears to be a numbers matching all original car ( interior has been reupholstered )

All i really want this thing for is light restoration with my dad ( so i dont really care what it costs its more about the time with dad )

That and to do big smokey burnouts. because well.... Burnouts

Say What?...
Since it says highway axle ratio it must be a 3.08

Also its so i can feel confident abusing it. but its low on my wants/needs list so im not looking to do it any time soon.
